SENATE RESOLUTION NO.40

Mr. President, Anderson, Bailey, Ball, Boley, Bowman,
Chafin, Craigo, Dawson, Deem, Dittmar, Edgell, Fanning,
Helmick, Hunter, Jackson, Kessler, Love, McKenzie,
Minard, Minear, Oliverio, Plymale, Prezioso, Redd,
Ross, Sharpe, Snyder, Unger and Wooton)
Commending Edward Slate and Steven Randolph of Sissonville, Kanawha
County, for their honesty and integrity in the face of
tragedy.

Whereas, On the evening of February 18, 2000, tragedy struck
the small community of Sissonville when heavy rains caused flash
flooding in the area. Sadly, three beloved individuals lost their
lives in an attempted rescue when a rescue boat capsized; and

Whereas, Edward Slate and Steven Randolph, students of
Sissonville Middle School and residents of Kanawha Two Mile, found
$6,000 and other items belonging to one of the deceased individuals
and turned it over to the authorities; and

Whereas, The honesty and integrity of these two young men are
to be commended. If every young person in West Virginia would
emulate their honesty and integrity, West Virginia's youth would
serve as a model for the nation; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby commends Edward Slate and Steven
Randolph for their honesty and integrity. These two outstanding
young men have projected confidence in the future of West
Virginia's youth and should serve as symbols to others to follow;
and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Edward Slate, Steven Randolph and the
principal of Sissonville Middle School.
